A great product experience starts with UX followed by UI. Both are essential for the product’s success. UX is generally considered to be a superset of UI – that is, it includes doing UI design but also a great deal more. UX is concerned with the entire user experience, sometimes captured in representations like “user journey” or “customer journey.” These describe every step from how a potential user (person, organization, etc) becomes aware of your product or service to how they become a customer to how they interact once they are a customer/user to how things might end. A journey map also describes various other outcomes such as error workflows, how a product might be returned, how a complaint might be handled, and so on.
