Teachers don’t have the right to steal whatever a student brings into the classroom. They can sometimes act in loco parentis, taking on some of the rights and responsibilities of a parent, but that doesn’t include stealing property that belongs to someone who isn’t their student — just like if you borrow something from your friend and take it home, your parents might be able to take it away from you, but it still belongs to your friend, so your parents can’t refuse to give it back to them. 📷
