By far the vast majority of people swim with a garment on their upper body over their swimsuit. We don’t usually use T-shirts, however, because the cotton absorbs too much water, stretches and becomes loose and floppy and a drag to the swimmer. Most swimmers use a lycra “rashguard.” It hugs the body and doesn’t increase drag. These are the same rashguards surfers wear and can be found on any surfing website or store.
