Patients are forced into the system with no reasonable alternatives. Given the patients’ choice of death or bankruptcy, it is simple for certain portions of the industry to charge obscenely and unnecessarily high prices. The US healthcare industry is the most expensive healthcare system in the world. In spite of this it does not begin to deliver the best healthcare or healthcare outcomes. That is almost completely driven by a profit motivated group of industries where value delivered for value received is not part of the system ethos.
