When I ask someone where they are from I can recognize most major European cities. If I don’t know I will ask, “I am not familiar with that city. I’m so sorry, but where is that?” But more than a few times this is how the conversation goes: (What I want to say): Yes. I’ll show you on a map if you feel like quizzing me. Can you find Indiana on a map right now? Because there a million more people living in Indiana than in Norway, but nobody expects you to be as literate in North American geography as I’m expected to be with Europe.
